On September 18, 2024, project partners, alongside Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara and Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti, celebrated the grand opening of Southfield Green Apartments, a new residential development in the town of Tecumseh, Ontario, bringing 142 new rental suites to the community.

“Southfield Green is a welcome addition to our community,” said Mayor McNamara. “In the last few years, we have seen an ever-increasing need for housing. Building new, purpose-built rental homes is critical to meeting this demand. We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of Southfield Green, which offers more families a place to call home in our town.”

Southfield Green is owned by Skyline Apartment REIT, developed by SkyDev, and managed by Skyline Living, – three divisions of Guelph, Ontario-based Skyline Group of Companies.

Skyline manages a total of 299 suites across three buildings in Tecumseh, including 11873, 11886 and 11917 Tecumseh Road East, adjacent to Southfield Green.

Demand for multi-residential housing continues to grow across Canada, not only in urban centres, but also in secondary communities like Tecumseh. The Windsor-Essex region, which has seen rapid population growth over the past two years, faces a severe shortage of rental housing, with a vacancy rate of only 2%  as of 2024.

“Ontario’s lack of housing supply has hit crisis levels, and as a prominent rental housing provider in Ontario, we have a keen understanding that we need to deliver more inventory where it is needed most,” said R.
